Summary:
Egyptian dishes date back many years ago and eve though there have been many adjustments over the years, these dishes have still prevailed. Many of these dishes contain legumes such as beans. Meat has been traditionally expensive and therefore it is less common in their popular dishes. A bread dish called aish is also common in many meals whether it is just a side or even used as a utensil to scoop the food.
Thoughts:
This article makes me feel happy inside because there are many vegetarian dishes! This shows that in the foundation of thier culture, meat was hard to find and expensive, therefore, it would not be common. By looking at how lunch is between 1-4 and dinner is between 8-midnight typically, I conclude that they either eat late, or they just culturally wake up late and work later. Over many of the dishes, including desserts included bread and legumes. It makes me feel warm hearted to know that even though there have been adjustments to some of the traditional dishes, they still retain the overall picture and the dishes weren't transformed.
How this links to culture:
Food links to culture because it can separate a group of people from other cultures. This article states that some of dishes date back even 5000 years. This links to culture because it traces back to the root of the culture and shows us why they used the ingredients that they did in those dishes. In the case of Egypt, they did not have an abundance of meat, so many of their dishes include vegetables, and legumes. This is important for Egypt because they ave kept a part of their culture alive for so long, which sets them apart.
